Frequently asked questions

Ordering

How much moss do I need?

Measure the area in square feet, add about 15% for trimming, and divide by the coverage on the box. The coverage calculator does the math for runners, centerpieces, walls, and pots.

Do I need an account to order?

You continue with your email and a password at checkout. The account lets you see your order and its tracking number afterward.

Products

Is Spanish moss a true moss?

No. Spanish moss is a bromeliad, Tillandsia usneoides, in the same plant family as the pineapple. Sheet moss and mood moss are true mosses.

What's the difference between dried and preserved moss?

Dried moss keeps its natural color and works indoors and outdoors. Preserved moss stays soft and flexible for permanent indoor décor such as moss walls. Read preserved, dried, or live moss for more.

Does Spanish moss have bugs?

Spanish moss grows outdoors, so a few tiny insects can come along even after the moss is cleaned. To be extra careful, seal it in a bag and freeze it for a few days before you use it indoors. See is Spanish moss safe?

Do you sell Styrofoam?

STYROFOAM™ is a DuPont trademark for building insulation, and the green blocks florists use are a different product. We plan to carry FloraCraft green craft foam for silk and dried stems. It doesn't hold water, so it isn't for fresh flowers.

Care

Does preserved moss need water?

No. Preserved moss needs no water or light. Keep it indoors, out of direct sun, and away from rain and steam.

Will dyed moss bleed color?

Dyed moss can bleed when it gets wet. Every label lists the dye status we've confirmed with the harvester, and our dried moss is undyed. Keep any preserved moss dry and off light-colored fabric.
